Achieving Kim Kardashian or JLo’s backside may seem impossible after spending hours at the gym doing squats with little-to-no result, but that doesn’t mean a full, shapely behind is unreachable. The popularity of Brazilian butt lift surgery is growing yearly, for good reason. This buttock enhancement procedure uses your own fat harvested from a problem area to add shape, volume, and lift to your derrière. Results look and feel natural, and you’ll enjoy them for years to come.
How Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Work?
One of the best parts about a Brazilian butt lift is that it uses your own fat to improve the size and shape of your buttocks, resulting in natural-looking and long-lasting results. Brazilian butt lift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under either general anesthesia or IV sedation with local anesthesia. Your surgeon will begin by making small, inconspicuous incisions in the pre-selected area from which fat is to be taken, often the abdomen, thighs, hips, or lower back—this helps to further improve your end result by creating a pleasing framework for the buttocks. Using a small specialized tube called a cannula, your surgeon will use liposuction techniques to remove fat and sculpt the area.
After enough fat has been removed, it goes through a special purification process to cleanse and prepare it for reinjection. Your surgeon will then precisely inject the prepared fat into the soft tissue of the buttocks in a pattern that provides the desired fullness and shape.
When Can I Sit After a Brazilian Butt Lift?
After your procedure, you will notice an immediate improvement in the fullness of your buttocks. You should experience very little, if any, discomfort at the injection sites, though you may be sore and swollen in the areas where liposuction was performed. You will need to wear a special compression garment for the first week or two after surgery to help promote healing and ensure your results are maintained.
While your buttocks should not be sore or uncomfortable, we recommend sitting on a special pillow or “doughnut” for a few weeks after a Brazilian butt lift to avoid putting pressure on the buttocks and protect the injection sites. Most of our patients return to normal activity within a few days and are back to work within the first two weeks. Strenuous activity and exercise should be limited during your initial recovery period but can typically be resumed within four weeks.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?
If you’d love to add volume and a more shapely contour to your buttocks, and wouldn’t mind shedding a small amount of fat from a troublesome spot, Brazilian butt lift surgery may be a good fit for you. It’s important that you have an area that has enough fat to be harvested for the procedure, as the purification process your harvested fat goes through prior to injection in the buttocks yields only about 30% of the fat initially removed. Slim patients with little body fat may not be eligible for the procedure.
