Laser Skin Resurfacing
When it comes to smoothing the skin and reversing the effects of aging and sun damage, laser skin resurfacing can provide dramatic results. State-of-the-art lasers can be safely and effectively used to improve the appearance of:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sun or age spots
- Skin tone and texture
- Acne scarring
Depending on your unique skin concerns, you may be placed under local or general anesthesia for your laser treatment. During treatment, the laser will remove a precise area and depth of skin. The layer of skin removed is comprised of old or damaged cells, which give your skin an overall dull or tired look. During your healing period, your body will naturally replace this skin with fresh, healthy skin, leading to a reduction in skin depressions and improvement in appearance.
Laser skin resurfacing treatments can range from shallow to deep, depending on what improvements you would like to see. Shallow treatments are usually sufficient for reducing fine lines, lightening sun spots, and refreshing the appearance of the skin. Deeper treatments may be needed to enhance your skin tone and texture, eliminate more severe wrinkles, and improve deep acne scarring.
Healing typically takes around 7 to 10 days, with final results appearing anywhere from one to six months.
If you would like to treat signs of aging, sun damage, and scarring without the downtime associated with traditional lasers, the MicroLaser Peel may be the perfect choice for you. The MicroLaser Peel is an ablative, intra-dermal laser peel that precisely removes the outermost layers of skin to reveal healthier, more attractive underlying skin and promote new skin growth.
Many patients benefit from a series of two to four treatments spaced six to eight weeks apart. Because your treatment will be customized to your specific needs, your experience may vary. After treatment, you will look and feel like you have a sunburn in the treated area.
Healing typically takes three to four days, during which time the treated skin will peel and redness will begin to fade. By day 4, the area should be considerably less sensitive and you can resume application of any topical products you may use.
This outpatient procedure can help reduce mild to moderate wrinkles, even out skin texture, and improve the appearance of scarring or acne. During your dermabrasion treatment, the uppermost superficial layers of your skin will be surgically sanded or planed to achieve a smoother, more even surface. For optimal comfort, you may be placed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation.
The treated area will be covered with a medicated ointment and you will be able to return home the same day. You should experience little discomfort, most of which can be controlled with prescription pain medication. Within a week, the treated skin should be healed, though you may see residual pinkness for up to three months.
As your final results gradually appear, you will notice great improvement in the appearance of your skin, with irregularities, scars, and wrinkles much less visible or pronounced. In rare cases, the treated skin may appear either lighter or darker than surrounding skin, though most patients heal beautifully.
Microdermabrasion incorporates a laser cut diamond to precisely and dramatically exfoliate the skin using a fine jet of crystals and vacuum suction. Treatment is gentle and painless and results in new, softer skin. Microdermabrasion is a great option for improving:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Age spots, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation
- Acne scars, chickenpox scars, and scratch marks
- Congested skin, enlarged pores, and blemishes
- Dull skin
This simple and non-invasive treatment is suitable for most skin types and can be successfully used to treat the face, neck, chest, arms, elbows, knees, and hands. In addition to exfoliating the surface of your skin, microdermabrasion prompts your body to produce new cells in the deeper layers of the dermis, clears out your pores, and stimulates new collagen production for improved skin health and texture.
