Plenty of great things come with age, such as wisdom, experience, and a better grasp of the world around you. Unfortunately, age also brings with it a few unwelcome changes. For men concerned with loose skin in the middle of the face, excess wrinkles, and jowling, there are options.

Male facelift surgery in Hampton roads effectively combats the more common signs of aging in men by tightening facial skin, reducing sagging skin, and minimizing creases between the base of the nose and corners of the mouth.

How Aging Affects Men

Not only do men and women have different concerns as they age, the aging process affects them quite differently. Because male skin is typically thicker and firmer, men often experience skin thinning at a slower rate, and the presence of fine lines may be less of a concern. This also means that when volume loss sets in, men may experience “falling” features to a greater degree.

The loss of subcutaneous fat and muscle strength, particularly in the midface and around the jawline, often leads to the appearance of jowls, loss of definition around the chin and jaw, and a drooping facial appearance.

Our board certified plastic surgeons understand male facial structure and have many years of experience working with male plastic surgery patients to achieve sharp, masculine results.

What to Expect from Male Facelift Surgery

Here at PSCHR, we offer a variety of facelifts, from “mini” to “standard.” During your personalized consultation, your surgeon will work closely with you to determine which option will best meet your needs.

Your facelift procedure will be performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. Your surgeon will begin by making inconspicuous incisions within the hairline above the ear, extending down around the lobe. Through this incision, your neck and facial muscles are tightened, facial skin is lifted and redraped to create a sharper, more youthful appearance, and excess skin is removed.

Your incisions will be sutured and your head and neck will be wrapped in dressings for at least a day. We will prescribe you pain medication to help you manage any discomfort you may experience during the initial healing period. You can expect your sutures to be removed within about two weeks, with any residual bruising and swelling going away in about 10 to 20 days.

Combining Procedures for Enhanced Results

While a facelift can provide dramatic improvement, some men benefit from the inclusion of other procedures. An eyelid lift can help improve the appearance of heavy lids that make you look angry, while rhinoplasty or chin augmentation can help bring your features into balance and create an overall more chiseled and masculine appearance.
