Aging, sun exposure, heredity and lifestyle factors contribute to facial wrinkling and discoloration. These include textural irregularities like wrinkles and acne scars, pigmentation changes like freckles, sunspots or visible blood vessels. In addition, the skin may lose tone, feel less firm and lose the healthy glow that is evident in younger skin.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing, also known as a laser peel, laser vaporization and lasabrasion, is used to reduce facial wrinkles, scars and blemishes and may help your skin look younger and healthier. By removing skin layer by layer with precision, new skin cells form giving the skin a tighter, younger looking surface. The procedure can be done alone or along with other cosmetic surgeries on the face.

Patients may have their skin resurfaced at almost any age. Your specific concerns will help you, and your doctor will determine the best treatment for your skin. You may have certain characteristics that make you a better candidate for one procedure over another, or your surgeon may prefer one based on personal experience with the different methods.

Photorejuvenation

Photorejuvenation, also called Photofacial, Fotofacial, or IPL, is a procedure that can improve the color and texture of skin without surgery. This minimally-invasive skin procedure treats signs of aging, splotchy skin due to a health condition, as well as the visible damage caused by sun exposure. Photorejuvenation can be used on all parts of the body including the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, legs and back.

You May Be A Good Candidate For Laser
Skin Resurfacing If You Have:

  • Fine lines or wrinkles
  • Shallow scars from acne
  • Non-responsive skin after a facelift
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Liver spots
  • Birthmarks
  • Enlarged oil glands

The procedure uses a laser to send short, concentrated pulsating beams of light to the troublesome areas and removes unwanted, damaged skin in a very precise manner one layer at a time. Laser skin resurfacing’s targeted approach means there are fewer problems with hypopigmentation, or a lightening of the skin, for procedures such as laser acne scar removal.

Some people who have laser resurfacing may see an immediate difference in the treated skin. That will continue to improve for up to a year. While the effects of laser resurfacing can last for many years, the normal aging process means that wrinkles and expression lines will reoccur. You may repeat laser resurfacing as necessary.

Patient Testimonials

This was my second time seeing Dr. Vonu. My first surgery (around 10 years ago) turned out so well of course I wanted to see him again. He is so kind & caring and always makes you feel comfortable. He explains everything about the outcomes of the procedures and post-op information. His staff is wonderful and is always there for you. I definitely recommend Dr. Vonu (and will go to him for any other procedures!).

During photorejuvenation, the skin is heated causing the body to get rid of the unwanted cells causing the reduction or removal of troublesome areas. Unlike similar procedures, photorejuvenation uses pulsating light that can treat a range of skin conditions all at the same time.

Photorejuvenation is one of the most popular treatments due to its low downtime and effective results. Most patients require 3-5 treatments one month apart to achieve optimal results. The length of time photorejuvenation results last will depend largely on the types of blemishes, as well as the size of the area, sun exposure, age, and genetics. Typically, the results will be apparent for six months to a year. Dermatologists recommend maintenance treatments every six to 12 months to help prolong results.
