Board Certified Plastic Surgeon
Born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, I received my medical degree and completed my surgical residency at the Medical College of Ohio. I continued my medical training at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where I completed my plastic surgery training. There, I became fascinated by the synergy of medicine and artistry, which led me to discover my passion for cosmetic procedures. Understanding my strength lies in problem solving and the process of designing creative solutions, I wanted to find a way to implement my enjoyment for building and fixing into my training and career. Having felt comfortable with my experience in breast and body contouring procedures at the University of Florida, I pursued further training with a renowned plastic surgeon in Ft. Lauderdale focusing in facial cosmetic surgery. Early in my career, I spent time enjoying microsurgery and hand surgery. Since then, I have found my niche in cosmetic surgery. I have performed thousands of cosmetic procedures and have been practicing for over thirty years.

For many years, I have been recognized by Hampton Roads Magazine’s “Top Docs Hall of Fame in Plastic Surgery” and “Best of the 757,” acknowledged as a “Top Plastic Surgeon in Virginia” by Virginia Living Magazine, and named a “Top Doc” by Coastal Virginia Magazine.
At the age of five, Dr. Vonu was inspired by his pediatrician and decided to become a physician. He never wavered from that choice. When asked why he chose plastic surgery as a specialty, Dr. Vonu said, “It offers me the luxury of being both a physician and an artist. I enjoy developing a vision with my patient and then bringing it to fruition.” This collaborative approach is much appreciated by his patients. He takes his obligations as a doctor very seriously, wanting to give his patients the best possible result while minimizing their exposure to risks.

Helping & Enjoying the Community
One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been my time volunteering locally and abroad. One of the highlights of my career was my experience volunteering in Angola, Africa through the University of Florida’s outreach program where I operated on patients correcting congenital malformations. Locally, I have enjoyed training medical residents and students. Giving back by sharing my surgical skills is a privilege. I can still remember visiting my pediatrician when I was five and wanting to become a physician. I still feel lucky and grateful to work in a field where I can help others. It has offered me the luxury of being both a physician and an artist. I truly enjoy developing a vision with my patient and then bringing it to fruition.
My passion for art extends beyond the operating room. My greatest joy in life is spending time with my wife, Mary, my three children, Chelsea, Peter, and Trevor, and my labradoodles. On weekends, Mary and I enjoy the various arts and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. As an avid sportsman, I also love sharing my passion for the outdoors with my family. I look forward to weekends spent with family and friends fishing and boating on the Chesapeake Bay and mountain sports in the winter.
