Hampton Roads Laser Hair Removal

Excess or unwanted hair on the face and body is not only frustrating, it can also be a source of embarrassment. Unfortunately, the “tools of the trade” for removing hair can be inconvenient and painful: razor burn, skin sensitivity, burns, and damaged hair follicles aren’t great side effects. But waxing and shaving aren’t your only options—safe, effective, and permanent reduction of hair can be achieved with laser hair removal.

Using a state-of-the-art laser, we can successfully and permanently remove individual hair follicles in your problem areas by destroying them with an ultra-concentrated beam of light. After multiple treatment sessions, you’ll be feeling soft, smooth, and hair-free.

Getting Ready for Laser Hair Removal

Before your treatment, we’ll perform an in-depth skin and hair evaluation and consultation. You’ll meet with one of our skin rejuvenation and laser specialists who will assess your problem areas. This will help us determine which options are best-suited to your skin type and hair color so we can make personalized recommendations for treatment.

We can perform laser hair removal virtually anywhere on the body, but the most popular areas for women are:

  • Upper lip
  • Chin
  • Armpits
  • Arms
  • Legs
  • Bikini line

Prior to your laser hair removal session, we’ll give you some specific pre-treatment instructions, including when to shave, how far in advance you should stop removing hair by the roots (waxing, tweezing, etc.), and any products or habits to avoid beforehand.

Your Laser Hair Removal Experience

Once it’s been determined that laser hair removal is a great option for you, we’ll schedule your first treatment session. Using a special laser, we will target a single color light wave directly on the melanin pigment of individual hair shafts in the treatment area. The light used triggers a forced state of rest or hibernation, which stops it from going through the growth cycle and permanently reduces hair.

During your treatment, you’ll likely experience a little bit of discomfort depending on where you are being treated. Most of our patients report that it feels like something small snapping against the skin, though this sensation is typically mild and easily tolerated—if your discomfort is intense, it’s important to let your treatment provider know right away.

Once your session is over, it’s normal for your skin to be pink, feel similar to a sunburn, and even swell slightly around the treated hair follicle. These side effects should resolve within just a day or two, and we will provide you with specific aftercare instructions to minimize them. To protect your skin, you’ll need to avoid excessive heat, unprotected sun exposure (wear full coverage SPF whenever going outside!), and strenuous activity for at least the first 24 hours.

How Many Laser Hair Removal Treatments Are Needed?

To get the most out of your laser hair removal, we’ll need to target each active growth cycle. This will ensure you get great, noticeable results. To that end, you’ll need to have around five to seven treatments spaced a few weeks apart. After each treatment, your hair will grow back lighter and softer until it is gone entirely.

After laser hair removal, you should be able to enjoy smooth, hair-free skin for many years to come. It’s important to note, however, that future hair growth can be impacted by hormone changes and certain medications and supplements—and in those cases, you may need to return for maintenance treatments a couple times per year to ensure lasting results.

Is Laser Hair Removal Right for Me?

Advancements in laser technology mean that most anyone can benefit from laser hair removal. While those with darker hair and fairer skin may experience more effective or quicker results, we can now treat a variety of skin tones and hair colors!
