Plastic Surgeon Williamsburg - Meet Plastic Surgeon Dr. Lofgren

Michael S. Lofgren M.D., is a practicing plastic surgeon who earned his MD and completed his General Surgery Residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, VA. Dr. Lofgren completed a Plastics Fellowship at University of Miami, Miami Florida. He has been honored with awards including the EVMS Department of Surgery Chief Resident of the Year, and the Dr. John Baker Award for outstanding Senior Surgical Resident for his work as a plastic surgeon. Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton Roads and surrounding area patients appreciate Dr. Lofgren’s compassionate approach to patient care and enormous resource of medical knowledge. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Lofgren chose to become a physician specifically to pursue a career as a plastic surgeon. Williamsburg and the surrounding areas provide a wonderful community to lend his talents to. "I have always been fascinated by the incredible diversity of patients, conditions and options to improve a person's life that plastic surgery offers. From trauma and cancer reconstruction to cosmetic procedures the scope of challenges and rewards are limitless," Dr. Lofgren said.

Dr. Lofgren is especially proud of two awards and honors he has earned as a plastic surgeon in Williamsburg and beyond. "I was selected at the administrative chief resident in both my general surgery and plastic surgery residency programs. This gave me a unique opportunity to work closely with my mentors both within and outside of the OR. Secondly, I was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society by my peers. This was an unexpected honor that served to reinforce my beliefs in both treating all people with respect as well as the value of hard work."

Dr. Lofgren's personal philosophy regarding plastic surgery involves the consideration of three things that can work in combination to result in successful outcomes. "The development of goals, expectations and ultimately a treatment plan through open discussion between the surgeon and the patient. Technical expertise in using the most up to date treatment and procedures available. And lastly, but most certainly not least, the artistic vision and mastery to combine all of the elements together to meet and exceed a patients expectations," Dr. Lofgren said.

Dr. Lofgren grew up in a family of 5 kids. He is engaged to be married in the fall. Dr. Lofgren has several hobbies including flying (he is a FAA licensed pilot), fly fishing, downhill skiing, collecting glass art. "I enjoy traveling and exploring interesting destinations with my fiancé," Dr. Lofgren said. He was born and raised in upstate New York, one of 5 children.
